Hey all! Saturn and Jupiter will be in their Great Conjunction (close orbital paths) on Monday night! Many of you have written in to share this exciting news with me and so I thought it prudent to share it with everyone on the site!.... Below is an article about what we'll be viewing up in the sky this Monday! Please read up and geek out with me and your friends! :) You won't need a telescope for this one :)
If you find a way to take a picture or to write a few words about your observations, please feel free to share with me! I love hearing what you notice in our natural world. Mark your calendars! See you under the great above every night this week - most notably Monday :) This close proximity of Saturn and Jupiter happens about every 20 years, but cloud coverage or conjunction during daylight hours can prevent us from observing it well or at all. This is reported to be the closest the planets have come to one another since 1623CE! If we are lucky, there won't be much cloud coverage and we'll have good visibility. Get ready to take a look near the horizon right after the sun goes down! Please join me in sharing this exciting event; we can enjoy the experience alone together! :) Happy viewing!
If you live somewhere that is often cloudy, start observing their conjunction tonight and continue to observe it until around Wednesday night. This will give you the opportunity to see it (albeit not at its peak) in case it is cloudy Monday night.
